Derby Car Designs:
There are many resources on-line regarding the design and construction of pinewood derby cars.  Use your imagination!  I've seen snakes, pencils, castles, tanks, aircraft carriers, swiss cheese, and many other creative designs.  Probably the most important look of the car is the paint finish.  Use light coats of spray paint and a glossy coat of clear to give it that polished look.  For speed, it's all about the wheels and axles so spend some time on those to get them to spin quickly.

History:
The first Pinewood Derby was held in 1953 by Cub Scout Pack 280C of Manhattan Beach, California. The first reference to the Pinewood Derby in a Scout publication was in the October, 1954 issue of Boy's Life.

The Pinewood Derby, one of Cub Scouting's great traditions.
